Preaching the word of God in Sanger since 1880

our history

In the early 1880's, Fr. Cornelius Yager, a Presbyterian minister, arrived from Cumberland.  He brought many settlers with him, and they became the founders of the Presbyterian church in Sanger.  In 1888, these early settlers, meeting in the home of Frank Giles, started a Presbyterian Sunday school.  In 1890, under direction of Rec. George Giffen,  the first Presbyterian church was incorporated.

In 1952, a new church (pictured) was built at Jensen Avenue and P Street.

What we believe

  1. The infallible word of god is fully inspired by the holy spirit, and is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks.
  2. There is one god, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  3. Jesus Christ, the living word, became flesh through his miraculous conception by the holy spirit and his virgin birth. he who is true god became true man united in one person forever.  he died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins.  he is the only savior and the only way to heaven.
  4. The Holy spirit has come to glorify christ and to apply the saving work of christ to our hearts.
  5. being estranged from god and condemned by our sinfulness, our salvation is wholly dependent upon the work of god's free grace.

Our Vision

Loving God, loving others, making disciples.

    Joe mazzela

My name is Pastor Joe Mazzela and I want to introduce myself to you. I am married to my wife Jasmine and she and I together have 4 children. I have two daughters Samantha who is 26 and married to her husband Taylor Garcia, and they have two children, Ashton 4 and Ava 1.5 . Then there's my daughter Kennedi who is 22 years old attending college studying art. I have two stepchildren; Esther who is 23 and she attends UC San Diego, and Samuel who is 19 and is also attending UC Sand Diego.

I graduated from Hoover High School and from Cal State, Fresno where I received a BS in Therapeutic Recreation. Following that I attended and graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary.
I did youth ministry and mission for many years in Glendora , CA at Glenkirk Presbyterian Church.

I have been in ministry for quite a while and one of my greatest gifts is to love and care for people. I love to invite people into the living room of God. Our Sanctuary, where the body of Christ prays for each other, studies the Word of God, where we have meals together, where we minister to one another! I really enjoy being in the presence of young and old. I have never lost the ability to care for and minister to youth. I am hopeful that I will be able to support you in your endeavor to minister to the youth in Sanger, Ca.

I love music and worshiping God. I enjoy fishing, racquetball, board games, boating, and being with family and friends is my favorite. I look forward to meeting you all in person. I realize that we are in a difficult time currently in the US. God is with us and we will get through this time together.

    God bless you all,

    Pastor Joe Mazzela
